NOTICE: The OFARC January meeting will be January 21st, at 9:00 am, at TranStar.
Our next meeting is scheduled for Jan 21st, the 3rd Saturday of the month so as to avoid a conflict with winter field day (1/28).  We'll meet face-to-face in the TranStar conference room and on Zoom.  A Zoom invitation will be sent out to members 2 or 3 days before in the usual way.  If you can, make plans to have breakfast before the meeting at The Toasted Yolk (Heights location), 4601 Washington Ave, Houston, TX 77007 at 7:30AM.

Announcements

  • Happy New Year, one and all!
  • Our last meeting was held on Nov 19th face-to-face as planned.  Ralph (KE5HDF) hosted the meeting along with ~16 others in attendance; 1 attended by Zoom,  A youTube recording of this meeting can be found here.
  • We enjoyed presentations about setting up a stealth antennas (Stephen) and rechargeable batteries (Barry); (see the slide deck at the Downloads link).  Dom gave us a teaser on a future presentation about WinLink.
  • Officer elections are planned at our next meeting so give some thought to serving the club as an officer or nominating a good candidate.
  • Stephen is organizing the Winter Field Day event to be held at Stephen F. Austin State Park.  A link to Stephen's invite and some details can be found here.
  • The Greater Houston Hamfest is coming up March 3rd and 4th.  (See the 2023 activity calendar at the Events tab.)
  • Our secretary reminds us of the following:
    • Its time for 2023 membership renewal:   A number of you are paid through 2023, for others it’s the annual dues.  Still $20.  See the membership tab above.
    • Net Controls Operators:   OKAY, we need others...  It's not that hard.   Lets step up.
    • Presenters:   The meetings are carried by a few individuals.   We will try to make the meetings more interactive.  Anybody with a project or activity can talk about it.  Maybe some more topics and videos.
    • Hands-on activity:   In the past we have had hands-on sessions; soldering, antenna projects, radio testing, etc.  We will look to have some of this in 2023 that can be completed during the session.
    • VEs:   Its easy to become a VE so that might be a goal for some.
    • License Upgrades:   Techs should make the goal of upgrading to at least General Class.   Plenty of resources out there.
    • Dormant Members:   A number of folks have not participated in club activity in some time so maybe 2023 is the time to get acquainted again.
    • Other offline meetings:   We should use the zoom meetings more regularly.  We have pay for an account.  Lets use it.
  • Contact Mark if you are interested in License exam testing.  Also, see the "Exam Sessions" link above for more information.
  • If you have a photo of your ham shack or favorite operating location, please send it on and I'll post them for all our members see... and comment!!  Please include your callsign in the photo.  Images submitted so far can be found here!
  • If you'd like to be added to our email reflector and share in the dialog between club members and local area hams, send me a request.
